📝PSAT Testing is Coming!
  • On October 10th SLV will be hosting the PSAT Test!
  • All Sophomores will be taking this test free. Watch the calendar and Weekly Bulletin
  • Juniors are highly encouraged to take the test as scores count towards scholarships.
  • Cost for Juniors (and any Freshman) will be $20 and includes a study guide.
  • Details on how to sign up will be coming in the next few weeks, so stay tuned.

⏳Work Permits for 18 - 19
  • If you are currently working, please make sure to see Kay Mendoza to pick up a new work permit ASAP as your current one will expire in September.
  • If you are looking for a job, click here for a listing of businesses that have hired our students in the past (You'll need to call to see if they are hiring).

🙏Volunteers Needed! Mountain Parks Lobster Feed Clean Up - October 14th
  • WhenSunday, October 14th from 10 am to 1 pm
  • Permission Slip is Needed: Click Here and bring to the SLVHS Counseling Office before Oct. 9th
  • Help out with the aftermath of the Lobster Feed (Which is on Oct. 13th) and gain Volunteer Hours!
  • This is a Volunteer Hours Opportunity! You need to be sure to turn in your hours after the event.

On these dates, representatives from specific colleges will be here at Lunch on the SLVHS lawn to talk to our students!
  • September 19th - Oregon State University
  • October 9th - University of Montana
  • November 1st -  Soka University of America

💲How Do I Pay for College?! Presentation- September 26th 
  • On September 26th from 6:30 - 8:30 pm in the SLV - MPR, we will be having a workshop on How to Pay for College!
  • Parents & Students of All Grade Levels Welcome to Attend this Presentation
  • RSVP Here. This is recommended, but any can show up the day of.
  • Financial Advisor Steve Shapiro will be presenting and there will be plenty of handouts and information for you.

  • Topics Include:
  • 1.  Financial Aid Basics – what it is and how your child can get some
    2.  Common mistakes and how to avoid them
    3.  Strategies – whether your income is high or low, you can reduce college costs if you plan ahead

💰College Aid / FAFSA Workshops - Oct. 17th (@ Lunch-time) & Nov. 1st (Evening)
In addition to our How to Pay for College Presentation, we have two additional workshops planned to help students and parents with their FAFSA and in understanding the different types of aid available:
  • Lunch Time:  October 17th in the SLV - MPR 
  • Evening Workshop: November 1st from 6:30 to 8pm in the High School Library
    • RSVP Here. Any can show up the day of though.

📜College Application Reminders:
  • October 1stCSU, Cabrillo College and FAFSA Applications Open
  • November 1stUC Applications can begin to be submitted
  • November 30th: Deadline for all UC & CSU Applications

💸Fall Scholarships 
Important Scholarships All Seniors Need to Apply For:
  • FAFSA 
    • On October 1st, you can begin to submit your FAFSA Applications (Click Here for the website). 
    • Get help on Oct. 17th @ Lunch and on Nov. 1st at 6:30pm in the HS Library (More Details in events)
  • Elks Scholarship - Open now, Due Nov. 15th
  • Santa Cruz Community Foundation Scholarships - Opens in December
  • If you are going to apply to San Jose State University, come talk to me as there is a specific local scholarship for that university!
