Pearson Homeschool Packages (not California editions)
Pearson is now marketing to the homeschool community through homeschool packages grades K-12. These are national textbook programs and do not use the California edition textbooks. For math in particular in all grades and for history in California, these programs are not recommended because they are national programs and would be so misaligned to our standards.http://pearsonhomeschool.com/ .

Lexia Reading
This latest release of Lexia Reading is an online highly interactive program to deliver foundational reading skills. Lexia Reading provides proven instruction plus real-time assessment of students’ progress from Pre-K level. The Strategies for Older Students component provides age-level appropriate instruction for students of 9 years through adult who need support in decoding and basic reading skills. Lexia Reading accelerates reading acquisition, prevents reading failure, and supports on-level and advanced readers.

The program begins with an entry test which separately assesses each student's required level. Instruction is then provided at the appropriate level for each student. Activities are self-paced, so the student can work at the rate which is best for him or her. All of the student's activity and progress is recorded and can be viewed by the teacher online or in printed form. The program automatically provides notification to the teacher when a student is not performing successfully and when a certificate of level completion is available for printing.

Lexia includes Assessment Without Testing: the world’s only norm-referenced, embedded assessment—providing a prediction of student outcomes and prescriptions of intensity of instruction—all without interrupting the flow of instruction to administer a test.
Welcome to the Lexia Classroom where a system of differentiated practice, embedded assessment and targeted instruction ensures that teachers spend more time teaching, students spend more time learning, and where all students’ reading skills are improved.

The recommended usage of Lexia Reading online is between 3 and 5 sessions per week.
Students working at grade level or above should have 3 sessions per week. At-risk students should have 4, and students with special needs should have 5. Each session should be between20 and 30 minutes. For further practice, printable worksheets are available to complement the work done online.

For students needing further assistance on a particular topic, printable lesson plans are available with instructions, scripts and activity sheets. Spoken instructions are available in English or Spanish, selectable by student. An app is available for the iPhone to enable parent/teachers and ESs to view students’ progress.

Reading Plus
Reading Plus is a skills development reading program suitable for use by grades 3-12. The program will improve the student's rate of reading, vocabulary, and comprehension, which will improve the student's ability to learn in all subject areas. Reading Plus, published by Taylor Associates, is unique among reading programs in that it tests and develops silent reading skills. The ability to read efficiently, and to understand and remember what has been read, is the key to a student's academic success.

The program begins with an entry test which separately assesses each student's reading level and vocabulary level. Instruction is then provided at the appropriate level for each. Activities are self-paced, so the student can work at the rate which is best for him or her.
All of the student's activity and progress is recorded and can be viewed by the teacher online or in printed form. The program automatically provides notification to the teacher when a student is not performing successfully and when a certificate of level completion is available for printing.

Regular use of Reading Plus as recommended will increase a student's reading rate, with comprehension. The rate cannot increase unless the comprehension test associated with each reading activity is passed. The recommended usage of Reading Plus online is between 3 and 5 sessions per week. Each session should be between30 and 45 minutes.

For further practice, printable worksheets are available to complement the work done online.
For Best Results: Use the program consistently for 3 to 5 sessions per week; each session should be 30 to 45 minutes; stay involved, monitor and discuss progress; ensure student is focused and not disturbed or assisted.
