MESSAGE FROM YOUR SUPERVISING/GUIDANCE TEACHERS ~
Here we are approaching the 6-week second-semester mark. Our continued message to our students and to their Learning Coaches (parents) is to stay organized, check your emails, check the web page, open Schoology several times a week, check PowerSchool on a weekly basis, be on time with attendance and assignments, ask questions.
Information on District WiFi Access during School Hours
The staff have had a few emails and student inquiries asking about the change in WiFi policy regarding phones during school hours. Student use of phones during class for non-academic purposes was taking up a large amount of bandwidth and slowing down and disrupting internet use for class activities. During class, students should only be using the internet for teacher-directed activities on the laptop or Chromebook they bring from home or the device they have checked out from the HS library for the year. Those devices will connect to District Wifi during school hours.
During school hours, students may still choose to use their phones outside of the classroom by connecting to their own cellular service for personal calls, texts, or internet use.
It is important to know that District WiFi will still be available to students on their phones before school, after-school, and all times other than actual school hours.
I hope this helps to better explain this new policy.

hold onto the ones we have, but we are now moving into a Chromebook reserve status. Please speak with your supervising teacher
about your options.
Senior Trip Update
The Senior Class held several fundraisers during the month of December and raised approximately $800. Thanks to all students who helped with dodgeball, senior elves and candy cane grams. A second vote was taken in Senior gov/econ classes to determine what students wanted to do for their senior trip based on projected costs after the fundraisers.
The majority of SLVHS senior students voted for a Senior Trip to Great America and Dave and Busters with an estimated cost of $40-$50 per Charter student as our students are not involved with fundraising. Transportation, lunch, dinner and game tokens will be provided.
PLEASE discuss this trip with your Supervising Teacher first. There are several requirements and eligibility guidelines to consider.

SLV ATHLETIC BOOSTER
SLV Athletic Boosters is a nonprofit organization for SLV parents and alumni who are interested in supporting athletic programs at San Lorenzo Valley High School. Boosters have financially supported high school athletics for over 35 years. In the 2015/2016 school year, Boosters contributed over $67,000.00 to SLVHS sports programs and facilities. SLV is the only district in Santa Cruz County that is a NO PAY TO PLAY for sports due to the Booster and District Office support and cooperation.
Needed: Several parents to sit on our CRHS Parent Advisory Committee ~
We are seeking several parent volunteers to meet (1 hour/1x month) on our Parent Advisory Site Committee. This year is particularly important as we conclude our WASC accreditation steps. Your guidance and input is very important to us. Please email Rhonda Schlosser for details: firstname.lastname@example.org
As we gear up this week, the sniffles and sneezes are guaranteed to start. How can you help? Teachers could use some supplies in their rooms to fight the good fight. If you can donate Kleenex, Wipes, or Hand Sanitizer, we would greatly appreciate it. Anything you can bring may be dropped off in your child's classroom. Thank you!
We encourage students to drink lots of water while at school. The teachers have water coolers in their classroom available for students to get the occasional cup of water and our teachers would appreciate donations of gallon containers of water filled at a water station or at the Scotts Valley Water Store. Small size works well.
We also strongly encourage our students to bring their own water bottle container, but please put a name or initials on the water bottle. We end up throwing away many containers each semester!
NEW COLLEGE UPDATES
Earlier submission of FAFSA!
Students attending college after July 1, 2017 will be able to file a FAFSA as early as October 1, 2016 rather than on January 1, 2017. The earlier submission date will be a permanent change, enabling students to complete and submit a FAFSA as early as October 1 every year.
Students will also report income information from an earlier tax year.
For example, students (and parents, as appropriate) will report their 2015 income information, rather than their 2016 income information if they are attending college from July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2018

New - SLVUSD Emergency Information Web Page
There is a new webpage from the SLV District Office for parents and students to go to for information during an emergency situation at school or in our valley.
The page is filled with information and instructions in case of emergency. In the event of an actual emergency, this page is where the district office will post updates on what is happening. In an emergency, this is the place to go online for facts and updates. Hopefully, this will allow parents and students to be informed and to remain as calm as possible.
